A team of four students from UCD and DIT looking to take on Europe’s toughest cycling challenge.

Born out of a conversation in the team base (Sugar Mountain coffee shop, Roundwood) in October, we are excited by the prospect of challenging ourselves both physically and mentally and the magnitude of the task at hand!

Race Around Ireland is an ultra-marathon 2150 km cycling race starting on the 27th August 2017 – a relay race with a time limit of four days, cycling 24 hours a day! The route roughly follows the coastline of the Emerald Isle and encompasses many of the historical sites (hopefully we can get some sweet drone footage!) As much a logistical challenge as a bike race, we will be seeking to get at least 12 people, 3 vehicles, 6 bikes around the county in as short a time as possible.

We are seeking to combine our passion for cycling with our mutual interest in social justice by using this opportunity to raise awareness and funds for World Bicycle Relief – a global non-profit which seeks to empower those in the developing world by bicycle! In areas where walking is the only mode of transport, a bicycle offers the real and immediate benefit of reliable access to essential goods and services.

World Bicycle Relief is currently working to provide 50,000 bicycles to students (70% girls), teachers and educational workers in rural Zambia and Zimbabwe. For €110, we can provide a World Bicycle Relief bicycle to a student in need. Every donation helps.

Please get in touch if you want to know more about us, the race, World Bicycle Relief or you would be interested in supporting us in anyway!
